Over 55% turn out, 2 killed, repoll ordered in 3 booths
Bhopal, Dec 01: Electoral fortunes of 2171 candidates were sealed in electronic voting machines as polling for Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, marred by killing of two persons and booth capturing necessitating repoll in three booths, ended this evening recording over 55 per cent turnout.
Two persons were killed in sporadic incidents of violence
and booth-capturing attempts while repolling was ordered in
three polling stations in Bandawar Assembly constituency of
Dhar district.
Reports of damage to electronic voting machines (EVMs) were
received from some places in Dhar and Shivpuri districts.
Two persons were killed and some half-a-dozen people
including a police official injured in poll-related violence.
A woman, identified as Shashi, was killed in Bhind town
when she was caught in cross fire between two rival groups. A
youth was also injured in the violence, SP, Bhind, G S Poras said.
In another incident at village Chachad in Ater
constituency under Bhind district, a man identified as Neeraj
Karaiya was killed when unidentified persons hit him with
lathis.
Reports reaching here from districts indicated that the
overall turnout could be 50 to 55 per cent, while state
election office said it could be over 60 per cent as final
figures were still pouring in from constituencies.
