Coimbatore, Nov 11: With the indefinite strike by National Textile Corporation workers continuing, the Tamil Nadu Labour Commissioner has convened a meeting with representatives of the management and unions at Chennai today to find a solution to the contentious bonus issue.
Over 3,000 workers in six textile mills attached to NTC have been on an indefinite strike since October 19, demanding payment of bonus and that it should not be treated as recoverable advance from their terminal benefits.
Despite separate talks held by top district and local Labour Department officials, the joint action council of Textile Trade Unions refused to withdraw the strike. Efforts to facilitate talks with top NTC officials in Delhi also did not materialise.
Union sources alleged the council was attempting to exert 'political pressure' through MPs on the Centre, for its immediate intervention and to bring in an amendment to the Bonus Act.
The Commissioner has summoned union and management representatives to Chennai for tripartite talks to find a solution to the issue.

Representatives of eight trade unions and top NTC officials would participate in the meeting.
