Businessman and member of parliament, M Morshed Khan, has been appointed the new bangladesh foreign minister, it was announced in Dhaka.
Khan, who had been an advisor to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, replaces A Q M Badruddozza Chowdhury who was sworn in as the 13th President of the country on Wednesday.
Khan was appointed a minister by outgoing President justice Shahabuddin Ahmed on Wednesday and his portfolio was announced late on Thursday night.
The new foreign minister, who is in his early sixties, has business interests in several sectors including telecom and automobiles, and has served as a special envoy of Begum Zia during her first term as prime minister in 1991-96.
