Patna, July 23: Bihar Assembly was today adjourned during Zero Hour amid turmoil with main opposition BJP creating a ruckus over erratic power supply by staging a dharna in the well of the house demanding resignation of the government for its failure to ensure adequate power supply. Raising the issue during Zero Hour Prem Kumar (BJP) complained about inadequate power supply across the state and stated when power supply to chief minister's residence, Raj Bhawan and state legislature could be disrupted, the plight of common people can be easily understood. He demanded a statement from the government on the prevailing power situation.

The BJP members later trooped into the well of the house, sat on dharna and raised anti-government slogans like 'Bijli Pani Do, Nahin To Gaddi Chod Do' (give electricity and water or quit ).

Leader of the opposition, Sushil Kumar Modi said a government which cannot fulfil its basic duty of providing water and electricity to the citizens had no right to continue in office even for a moment. He requested the chair to direct the government to initiate immediate remedial measures to improve the power scenario in the state or face the ire of the people. Modi recalled yesterday's incidents when angry masses had vandalised the super grid at Biharsharif and a power sub-station in Begusarai protesting against abysmal power situation.

Several people were injured when an irate mob clashed with the police who fired nearly 50 rounds in air, burst teargas and lathicharged the crowds at Biharsharif. Some Bihar state electricity board officials were also assaulted at Begusarai and equipment at a sub-station was damaged.

He demanded that the government instead of firing on hapless people ensure proper power supply and joined his party members in demanding the resignation of the government.

When the repeated request by the chair to restore order fell on deaf ears, he adjourned the house for lunch recess 20 minutes ahead of the schedule .
