Parliament was adjourned till 2 pm amid unruly scenes and high decibel sounds demanding dismissal of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. With major opposition parties remaining firm on their demand for the ouster of the CM, the second phase of the budget session is expected to be stormy. The Congress, the Left and some other opposition parties have made it clear that a discussion on Gujarat communal violence must be given precedence over other issues and it will be raised by them again as soon as both Houses of Parliament meet after a three-week recess.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sonia Gandhi, the CPI(M) politburo. Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and other opposition parties have rejected the decision taken by the national executive of the BJP to allow Modi continue in office.

In the Rajya Sabha, forty-seven members will be administered the oath of affirmation. They are among the 60 members elected in the recent biennial poll to the house of elders.
Thirteen of them were administered the oath of affirmation by chairman of the Rajya Sabha Krishna Kant in his chamber on April three. They have been elected from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and West Bengal.
