New Delhi, July 24: The Supreme Court today cleared hurdles for admission of students into MBBS and dental courses across the country through 15 per cent all India quota by staying the Maharashtra legislation which had withdrawn its medical seats from the quota.
A five judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice V N Khare said the Maharashtra legislation appears to be "invalid" and hence "we stay its operation".
The court directed the authorities to proceed with the all India quota admissions and directed all states to admit students selected through counselling by directorate general of health services.
Taking exception to the unilateral withdrawal of the medical seats by Maharasthra government from the all India quota scheme, which was framed under the orders of the Supreme Court, the bench said if the state government had any difficulty it should have approached the apex court.
