Normal life was affected on Friday in Arunachal Pradesh during a 10-hour state-wide bandh call given by the state Congress to protest imposition of sales tax on some items.
Markets remained closed and private vehicles were off the roads during the bandh which began at 6 am. Educational institutions wore a deserted look and banks and post offices did not function.
Official sources said government vehicles were plying with police escort and attendance in government offices was reported to be normal. The AC headed by former chief minister Gegong Apang has been agitating against the imposition of sales tax which would affect the poor.
