Chandigarh, May 17: Haryana Congress and former ally BJP today demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister and INLD Chief Om Prakash Chautala following the wipe out of his party in the general elections. ` "Chautala should step down on moral grounds. People's verdict is against his government. What right he has to continue in office," Haryana Congress president and former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal said today. The INLD which had five members in the dissolved Lok Sabha, failed to win any of the ten seats it contested in Haryana in the just concluded general elections.
Leader of the opposition and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda also asked Chautala to seek a fresh mandate.
"The mandate in the Lok Sabha elections clearly indicates that people of the state have rejected INLD. He should step down without wasting any time," he says.
Demanding the immediate resignation of Chautala, BJP president Ganeshi Lal said, "he must respect people's sentiment and step down immediately.
Ruling out possibility of any tie-up with the INLD in future, Lal said, "We would have done even better in the Lok Sabha polls, but somehow the thought that we may again ally with INLD seemed to have played at the back of mind of the people, which is why congress gained significantly,".
