London, Aug 31: Williams have played down Juan Pablo Montoya's title chances despite seeing the Colombian close to within a point of championship leader Michael Schumacher.
Montoya has scored 56 points in seven races, but BMW Williams technical director Patrick Head said there could still be a major twist in the race for glory.
"This business has a habit of always providing surprises," said Head. "The minute you are most in expectation you are going to do well, something goes wrong, and the moment you think you are in deep water, something happens to fall in your lap, so it's not a predictable business."
The next race is the Italian Grand Prix on 14 September, where Williams are again favourites to win. With a three-day test session at Monza next week, Head is hoping to fine-tune the car for the final push, although he thinks Williams could struggle at Suzuka - site of the season-ending Japanese Grand Prix.
"We've obviously been planning our Monza set-up because that's the one track that is extremely different in terms of aero set-up, so at the test we will be evaluating the full package," he said.

"Unless we can make a significant improvement, then the only place where I'd have to say we could struggle is at Suzuka
