Centre sanctions three security posts in Manipur
Tamenglong (West Manipur), June 06: The Centre has sanctioned the opening of three security posts along Imphal- Silchar National Highway 53 in view of frequent lootings and crime perpetrated by militants, official sources said.

sanctioned the opening of three security posts along Imphal-
Silchar National Highway 53 in view of frequent lootings and
crime perpetrated by militants, official sources said.
Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district Dichamang
Pamei said central forces would be deployed at Barak Haimai
and Oinamlong areas of the NH 53 very soon in addition to the
existing force at Noney, Khoupum, Nungba and other places.
A major portion of the NH 53 which is considered as the
second lifeline of Manipur after the Imphal-Guwahati NH 39
passes through the district where frequent lootings and
harassment on passengers by armed militants were on the rise.
Pamei said Manipur police housing corporation would also
start constructing accommodation for the security forces at the
three sanctioned places after evicting the encroachers from
the highway.
Pamei said the state government would urge the Centre for
opening of security posts at three more places at Keifundai,
Irang and Maku along the same NH because these areas were also
highly vulnerable.
Sub-divisional police officer of the district Jarma Singh said no killing or violence had taken place along the NH 53 in the past some months although underground militants continued to disturb the passengers.
