Surat, June 19: A local court today deferred till June 21 the bail plea of Sunanda Shetty, mother of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and prime accused in a case of alleged extortion. Chief judicial magistrate R P Mehta adjourned the hearing on a plea by Shetty's advocate. Advocate Kalpesh Desai, appearing for Sunanda, urged the court to adjourn hearing of the bail petition since he had not received documents of the case that were sent to Gujarat High Court for considering the anticipatory bail of Sunanda's husband and co-accused Surendra Shetty. Sunanda was not present in court today and her advocate cited bad health as the reason for her absence.

However, she is expected to be present for hearing on her bail plea on Saturday.
Public prosecutor Jatin Gandhi also consented to the plea of defence lawyer for adjourning the case. Surendra, also an accused in the case, is likely to surrender before Umra police in Surat or the Surat Police Commissioner tomorrow in keeping with the assurance given by his lawyer to the Gujarat High Court.
