Kolkata, Feb 21: The Indian cricket team will begin its Pakistan tour on March 10 and will play three Tests and five one-dayers. They will not play any Test in Karachi and Peshawar, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya said today.

  • According to Dalmiya, India would prefer to play the ODI series first. The first ODI will be played in Karachi and the first Test match will be played in Multan, he said.

    "The team will leave for Lahore on March 10 and on March 11, there will be a one day warm up game. Then the five ODIs will begin," Dalmiya announced today.

    The team will return by April 18 and the tour is expected to be over before the next general elections. The selection for the team will take place on March 3.
    During the 40-day tour, the first Test will be played at Multan between March 28 to April 1, the second at Lahore between April 5 to April 9 and the third at Rawalpindi from April 13 to April 17.

    Dalmiya said that visa rules would be relaxed to enable Indian cricket lovers to visit Pakistan for the series.

    "Both the governments are working out details to make the visa procudures easier for the fans wishing to visit Pakistan," he said. The Board chief said the BCCI took into consideration the recommendations of the Home Ministry while finalising the itinerary for the historic tour.

    Meanwhile, the Home Ministry seems to have changed its mind on security concerns for the players and Team India will be accompanied by some degree of security from India. According to the Minister of State for Sports, security officials from the ministry will go along with the team to Pakistan.
    Earlier, Home Misister LK Advani had said that the team would not be accompanied by Indian security.
