Islamabad, July 27: A police constable and two alleged arms smugglers were killed in an encounter with police on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, police sources said today. The incident occurred at Islamabad Chowk near Golra Sharif about 1150 yesterday when the police signalled them to stop the van they were travelling for a routine check. Police chased the vehicle after the driver refused to stop and the inmates in the vehicle instead of stopping opened fire at the policemen, killing one of the officers. Police killed two of the attackers, they said. Another two gunmen were arrested after the vehicle stopped on the side of the road, police were quoted by 'dawn' daily as saying. The police have impounded the vehicle besides having recovered a huge quantity of weapons.
