Normal commuting was affected in the capital as the government began phasing out diesel buses on Saturday following Supreme Court’s order. In the first phase, nearly 3,000 buses are likely to go off the city roads. After the phase-out of these seven-year-old buses, the ones to follow would be those which have been registered between 1994 and 1998. The buses to fall in this lot would bear registration numbers between DL 1PA 0601 and DL 1PA 5500, the report states. They would be phased out by December 31, this year. And in the last group of the phase-out plan are those buses which have been registered after 1998. They will be phased out by December 31. Regarding phasing out of the buses, the transport department would supply the list of 3,000 odd buses whose special permits would have to be surrendered. Bureau Report
