Ropar (Punjab), Feb 17: More than 200 birds were today found dead under mysterious circumstances near a slaughter house at Nangal about 60 km from here, district forest department sources said. Local residents found the birds scattered in the vicinity of the slaughter house, they said.
The cause behind the death of so many birds could not be ascertained immediately. But officials are examining reports if it could be due to the birds eating animal waste meat which might have become toxic due to mixing of some insecticide used for killing flies on the floor of the slaughter house.
The insecticide could have been washed away in to the waste meat during cleaning of the floor of the slaughter house, the sources said.
Nangal council sanitary inspector, who is also incharge of the slaughter house, told that the dead birds have been preserved at one place.
Necessary information about the birds have been passed on to the wild life authorities, he added. Bureau Report
