EC asks states to fill up election officers` vacancies
New Delhi, Feb 12: The Election Commission (EC) today asked the state governments to immediately fill up vacancies of returning officers and implement its yesterday`s order on transferring officials likely to be involved in the poll duty and having served four years or more in the same districts as well as working in the home districts.
New Delhi, Feb 12: The Election Commission (EC) today asked the state governments to immediately fill up vacancies of returning officers and implement its yesterday's order on transferring officials likely to be involved in the poll duty and having served four years or more in the same districts as well as working in the home districts.
The EC has also asked the Chief Secretaries and Director General of Police (DGPs) to report the requirement of security forces for the general elections as well as the need for deploying para-military forces in the sensitive areas.
The commission also wants that the model code of conduct must be followed strictly and officials associated with the electoral process should be of impeccable integrity. The modal code of conduct will come into force as and when the commission announces the poll dates.
The pre-lunch session meeting was attended by administrators and police chiefs of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal.
The meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurty, Election Commissioners B B Tondon and N. Gopalaswamy. Bureau Report
