Dhaka, Feb 26: India and Bangladesh need to evolve a win-win solution to bilateral issues to the mutual satisfaction of the two neighbours, Indian High Commissioner Mrs. Veena Sikri said. ''It is my earnest endeavour to realise and actualise Bangladesh-India friendship to its full potential in every area and on each issue. We shall seek to evolve win-win solutions to the mutual benefit (of the two neighbours),'' she said at a dinner hosted by main opposition Awami League in Gulshan yesterday.
The Indian diplomat said that as relations between the two countries strengthen and diversify, the expectations of the two peoples also increase. Bangladesh, she said, is India's largest trade and investment partner among Saarc countries while India is one of the largest trade and investment partners of Bangladesh among developing countries.
''People are realising the tangible benefits of greater mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and India,'' the newly-appointed High Commissioner said, adding that Dhaka and New Delhi should work together in developing the strong synergies that exist between the two countries.
Recalling the signing of the Ganges water-sharing treaty during the rule of the Awami League in 1996, she said Awami League made efforts to strengthen the bilateral ties. She observed that the Ganges water treaty helped resolve a longstanding problem to the mutual benefit of the two peoples. Bureau Report
