Patna, July 08: Members of the Bihar Assembly today expressed concern over the reported decision of the Jharkhand government not to allow admission to students from Bihar to some of the premier schools following failure of the Rabri Devi government to pay on time its Rs 12 crore share for running the institutions.
The matter came up for discussion during zero hour when Vishwanath Baitha (BJP) raised the issue prompting the members to express concern over the Jharkhand government's step.
The members asked human resource development minister Ram Lakhan Ram Raman whether it was true that the Jharkhand government had terminated the quota of Bihari students in three prestigious schools - Netarhat School for Boys, Indira Gandhi School for Girls at Hazaribagh and Sainik School at Jhumritilaya - over non-payment of Bihar's share towards meeting running costs.
Leader of Opposition Sushil Kumar Modi requested Speaker Sadanand Singh to direct the government to sort out the issue with the Jharkhand government. He was supported by other opposition leaders and some of the rjd members who demanded a statement from the minister.
The minister, however, said the quota for Bihari students has not been terminated as the government had already made part payment of Rs 2.5 crore.
On media reports quoting Jharkhand HRD minister P N Singh that there would now be no quota for Bihari students as the Rabri Devi government had failed to deposit the amount on time, the minister said he would ensure the quota is not terminated.
