The head of Bangladesh's new caretaker government has carried out a major reshuffle of officials which met with immediate protest.
Latifur Rahman, who was sworn in to the office late on Sunday, wasted no time moved 13 top bureaucrats to other posts.
Agency reports said that after the announcement was made by the government press information department, that four bureacrats rushed to the Bangabhaban Presidential palace on Sunday night to hold a meeting with Bangladesh President Shahabuddin Ahmed.
The quartet included former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed's principal secretary S. Abdus Samad and secretary of the economic relations department Mashiur Rahman.
Rahman was quoted by the Bhiorer Kagoj daily as saying that they had briefed the President on the whole situation and any change would need the approval of the President.
