Two persons were killed and three injured as police opened fire to disperse arsonists in Ahmedabad city even as arson and rioting rocked Himmatngar town of Sabarkantha district prompting authorities to clamp indefinite curfew.
Two persons were killed when police fired to disperse mobs setting afire shops at Vatva Labour area of Ahmedabad city, police said.
In Ahmedabad, curfew was lifted from five police station areas of Kalupur, Shahpur, Karanj, Dariapur and Madhupura On Wednesday and was relaxed in Danilimda police station area.
Curfew was imposed in Himmatnagar town after a hotel and religious place were ransacked and set on fire by a mob. Police burst teargas shells to scare away mobs. Indefinite curfew remained in force in Modasa Taluka town of Sabarkantha district where two persons were killed in police firing after group clashes on Tuesday. The situation in the town was reported to be peaceful.
In Bharuch district town, curfew continued in Dandia bazar area of the town where arson and rioting prompted police firing killing two persons on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the situation was normal in Baroda and Godhra town with no report of any untoward incidents. No untoward incident was reported from the trouble-torn Bharuch town, where indefinite curfew continued. Two platoons of BSF staged a flag march early on Wednesday and situation was well under control. Bureau Report
