German coach vows pressure on Scots in Euro 2004 qualifier
Dortmund, Sept 09: German coach Rudi Voeller vows to `put the Scottish under pressure` in Wednesday`s Euro 2004 qualifier.
Dortmund, Sept 09: German coach Rudi Voeller vows to "put the Scottish under pressure" in Wednesday's Euro 2004 qualifier.
"We want to attack and put the Scottish under pressure. But the way I know (Scotland coach) Berti (Vogts) he will think of something in order to avoid that", German coach Rudi Voeller told reporters in Dortmund on Monday (September 8), quickly adding "but we too will think of something".
Voeller and Vogts, a former Germany coach, will meet on Wednesday when Germany play Scotland in a Euro 2004 qualifier in Dortmund.
Voeller also commented on his weekend outburst after a dismal 0-0 draw with Iceland on Saturday.
The usually mild-mannered Voeller lost his cool following Saturday's game, telling German television that their commentators analysis of the German performance was "a load of crap."
Asked whether his outburst was intended to distract from his teams bad performance, Voeller told journalists on Monday:
"I would not go that far. That would be exaggerating it. Of course I did not plan this".
He then added, much to the amusement of reporters, that "in hindsight, it was appropriate".
"No seriously, you all know me. Why should I talk nonsense? I hope it will help us".
Germany will knock Iceland off the top of Group Five if they beat Scotland in Dortmund, but they will need to show an improvement after their draw in Iceland.
Voeller was expected to make several changes to the team who disappointed him in Reykjavik. Striker Fredi Bobic and midfielder Sebastian Deisler were both likely to start the Dortmund match.
Bayern Munich's defensive midfielder Jens Jeremies, who missed Saturday's game because of a sore knee, was to pass a fitness test on Monday.
