Authorities reopened bridges and tunnels in New York but airports remained closed after an American Airlines jet crashed in a Queens on Monday, a port authority spokesman announced.
Bridges and tunnels which link Manhattan with the rest of the city and New Jersey were reopened to traffic in both directions at about 12:05 pm (2235 IST), spokesman Greg Trevor said.
Three metropolitan area airports -- John F Kennedy, Newark and La Guardia -- were closed immediately after the crash, amid fears it could be a terrorist act, two months after hijacked jetliners were used to destroy New York's World Trade Center.
The airports remained closed at 2315 IST, Trevor said. A port authority source who asked not to be named said the airports were ready to be reopened, once the federal aviation administration gave the green light.
