RDSO develops VRP for control equipment in Railways

New Delhi, Apr 01: The Research Designs and Standards
Organisation (RDSO), a research and development unit of Indian
Railways, has developed Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT)
based Voltage Regulating Panel (VRP) for easy low current gate
control.
The VRP is an automatic regulating and current limiting panel
for the auxilliary generator to be used for battery charging and for
supplying power for control equipment.
IGBT does not need forced commutation for switching off IGBT
based VRP. It also provides integrated circuits, which functions as
generator for working of its control.
The switch mode controlled regulator is more reliable than the
conventional thyristor regulator because of low power
dissipation and high margin of voltage and
current for the power device.
The field trial of the VRP has given trouble-free service, a railway release said.
