Cromwell, July 27: Peter Jacobsen carded a 1-under 69 to stay top of the leaderboard at minus-11 after the third round of the Greater Hartford Open at the TPC at Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Peter Jacobsen shot a one-under-par 69 Saturday (July 26) to remain one stroke clear of the field at the $4 million Greater Hartford Open. Without a win on the PGA Tour since 1995, Jacobsen stands on 11-under 199 after 54 holes, just ahead of Chris Riley (63) and Willie Wood (68). Kenny Perry (67), a three-time winner on the tour this season, and Craig Barlow (68) are at nine-under 201. Jacobsen is aiming to become the sixth player aged 40 or older to win this season, the most recent being Craig Stadler, who won last week's B.C. Open at age 50. However, Jacobsen is not putting any limits on what might unfold in the final round Sunday. Jacobsen went out in even-par 35 on the par-70, 6,820-yard TPC at River Highlands. He bogeyed the par-three 11th and par-four 14th but rallied with birdies at the 15th and 16th to get under par and retain his one-stroke overnight lead. Wood was at 13-under for the tournament with a three-stroke lead through the 13th hole, but saw that evaporate with a bogey at the 14th and a triple-bogey at the par-four 15th.

Wood, making his 141st PGA Tour start since his only win at the 1996 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, played the 15th hole conservatively the first two rounds. Saturday, he hit a three-wood left into the water. After a drop, he hit his third shot over the green into a bunker and then chipped onto the green. He three-putted.

Riley had missed five of seven cuts prior to this week, but continues to find his game. He posted the day's low score, needing just 22 putts in the process to move up 19 spots on the leaderboard.

The 43-year-old Perry, who began the round tied for 10th, had two eagles, a birdie and three bogeys in a back-nine 33 to move into contention. In Perry's five previous starts, he has won three times and added top-10 finishes in the last two majors, earning over $2.9 million in the process.
