Karachi, Aug 10: A judge today postponed until next week the trial of three Islamic militants charged with the deadly bombing of the US consulate, ordering police to arrest six additional suspects still at large. Judge Ale Maqbool Rizvi, presiding over the anti-terrorism court in Karachi amid heavy security, also postponed the simultaneously scheduled trial of the militants on charges of plotting to kill President Pervez Musharraf. The trial on both charges is now scheduled for August 16.

Meanwhile, prosecutors presented defence lawyers with a list of 50 witnesses they planned to call.

The three charged in both cases were Mohammed Imran, Mohammed Hanif and Mohammed Ashraf. Imran is identified as the leader of the Harkat-ul-Mujahedeen al-Almi extremist group and the other two as group officers. Harkat-ul-Mujahedeen al-Almi, a splinter group of Harkat-ul-Mujahedeen, or movement of holy warriors, worked closely with al-Qaida in Afghanistan before the collapse of the Taliban government.
