Attacks on army, pilgrims aimed at `ruining` peace atmosphere

London, July 23: Terming the attacks on an army camp and pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir as an attempt to "ruin" the attempts at peace by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee , India has asked Pakistan to do some serious thinking on whether it wants to take the peace process to its logical conclusion.
"There is no doubt yesterday's attacks on an army camp
and pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir are an attempt to ruin the
atmosphere of peace Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has
tried to create and the suspicion obviously is on extremists
supported by Pakistan," Murli Manohar Joshi, Human Resource
Development Minister told here last evening.
The Minister, who had a day's halt here on his way to New
York to participate in an education exchange programme, said
despite the hurdles India would like the peace efforts to
succeed.
"However, there will be a strong reaction to the attacks
in the country and also in Parliament. People are going to say
that whenever India extends its hand of friendship, Pakistan
and those supported by it create hurdles," Joshi said.
"Pakistan government needs to think seriously how
important India's offer of peace is for them and whether they
want to take it to its logical conclusion or not," he said and
recalled that even earlier whenever India made peace
overtures, the efforts failed because of Pakistan.
And even in this case, the assault on the effort is
from Pakistan's end, he said.
