Sun City, Nov 30: Kenny Perry leads by one stroke after the second round of the Sun City Challenge.
Kenny Perry of the United States birdied the 18th to take a one-shot lead after the second round of the Sun City Challenge in Sun City, South Africa on Friday (November 28). Perry shot a 4-under-par round of 68 for an 11-under total of 133, a stroke clear of compatriot Jerry Kelly and Spaniard Sergio Garcia who shot rounds of 66 and 67 respectively at the par-72 Gary Player Country club. Garcia's round was the lowest of the day. Perry, the joint overnight leader on 7-under, was a shot clear of the field after 10 holes when play was suspended for two hours because of an electrical storm.
When the players returned, Kelly and Garcia moved into the lead with Perry on 10-under after Kelly made birdies at the 14th and 16th holes and Garcia completed his round with his fifth birdie following a brilliant approach to the 18th.

His shot was eclipsed by American Fred Funk who holed his approach from over 170 metres at the par-4 17th for an eagle. Despite this, Funk finished his round seven shots behind Perry after a round of 71.

Retief Goosen kept South Africa's interest alive with a five-under round of 67 to move to seven-under after 36 holes, four shots off the lead. Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, America's Chris DiMarco and Fiji's Vijay Singh joined him on 137.

Defending champion Els endured his worst day at Sun City in eight years after carding a three-over 75. It was Els' first round in excess of par since the final round of the 1995 tournament. He was stranded 14-shots back of the lead on three-over par and seemingly out of contention for a record fourth title.
