Jammu, July 22: Barely twelve hours after the attack on Vaishno Devi pilgrims in which six devotees were killed, militants struck again killing seven jawans in a suicide attack on an army camp at Tanda at Akhnoor in Jammu district early today, and in the subsequent encounter three terrorists were shot dead. The militants, in army uniforms, alighted from a vehicle around 5 am and began firing on security guards at the 610 EME camp at Tanda, a defence spokesman told.
The militants barged into the camp and after lobbying grenades opened indiscriminate firing.
In the subsequent exchange of fire, three militants were killed by security personnel, Lt Colonel R K Sen said.
The spokesperson said that the five jawans, killed in the attack, were on guard duty at the gate of the camp.
Sen said the encounter had ended and mopping up operations were on in the area.
The number of militants involved in the attack on the camp was still to be ascertained, Sen added.
Six pilgrims were killed and 48 others injured last night in the attack by militants in Badganga, two kms away from Katra.
