Srinagar, Aug 14: Panic gripped the Bakshi Stadium area, venue of the main Independence Day celebrations here tomorrow, when guns of two security personnel went off accidentally in the vicinity. CRPF Head Constable Dharam Chand accidentally fired a round late last night in the indoor stadium, adjacent to the Bakshi Stadium, momentarily spreading panic among security guarding the Bakshi Stadium, official sources said.
The constable was injured by the fire and hospitalized, they added.
In a separate incident, gun of a security jawan accidentally went off near Shergai police station, opposite Bakshi stadium today, when an army vehicle was heading towards a nearby army camp. No one was hurt in the single-shot, but the gunfire sparked panic among pedestrians, the sources said.
Unprecedented security arrangements have been made in Srinagar on the eve of Independence Day as pro-Pakistan militant outfits Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad have sneaked in 40 foreign militants into the city to carry out suicide attacks to disrupt the celebrations. Bureau Report
