CBI is awaiting a report from the Central Forensic and Scientific Laboratory (CFSL) on the forged letter purportedly written by cabinet secretary T R Prasad to the Prime Minister`s Office opposing Air India`s disinvestment before quizzing congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi who exposed the note in Parliament recently.
Agency sources said that CBI had already sought an opinion from the legal department for questioning of Dasmunshi. The sources said that CFSL hand-writing experts had begun their work and a report from the department was expected to come within this week.
The controversy about the forged letter erupted after Prasad informed the government that he had not written the letter which was quoted by Dasmunshi in the Lok Sabha last Thursday while participating in a debate on disinvestment. The CBI sources said that some other persons could also be examined in the case registered against unknown persons by the CBI under section 466 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. The CBI`s special crimes unit is carrying out the probe.
The case was filed after a complaint from the cabinet secretariat on Friday.
