Madrid, Aug 27: David Beckham speaks of life with Real Madrid on eve of his home debut. On the eve of his debut for Real Madrid at home in the Bernabeu, David Beckham has been speaking about his welcome and his future in Spain. He told a news conference in Madrid on Tuesday (August 26) that he had been made very welcome. "I've enjoyed my first month in Spain," he said. "I've been welcomed by everyone in Madrid and I've been welcomed by the players and everyone at Real Madrid. So I've enjoyed it. It's been great." The England captain joined Real from Manchester United in July in a deal worth up to 35 million euros (38.09 million U.S. dollars) and ever since he has been besieged by the paparazzi, as well as members of the equally excitable sports press. Beckham has been well below his best in his two games for Real in Spain, a goalless draw away to Valencia in a pre-season friendly and a 2-1 defeat by Real Mallorca in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

But he did have the satisfaction of setting up Real's goal against Mallorca on Sunday with a pinpoint corner. Beckham said on Tuesday that he was upset at being substituted after just 55 minutes, but he was now looking forward to getting another chance to impress in the return on Wednesday.

"Any player that gets subbed gets upset, so I'm no different. I want to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes also. But it's the manager's, you know, decision and it's a long season so we'll work on it," he said.

Asked about possible clashes between playing regular football in Spain whilst being England skipper, Beckham said it was all about compromise. "I want to play for my club and I want to play for my country, so it's important that it gets sorted out."

References were made at the news conference to his "pop star" lifestyle as a millionaire role model married to Victoria, an actual pop star. "All I'm concerned about is my football and I've got an important year, an important few years ahead of me and that's what I'm concentrating on," said Beckham.

As for Wednesday's debut at the Bernabeu, Beckham said: "Each game has been important and exciting for me so, you know, it's hard to actually put it in words, the feeling I'll get when I walk out tomorrow. It'll be quite an emotional game."
