Mumbai, Nov 10: Special investigating team probing the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam today questioned Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramakant Padwal on his alleged role in shielding prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi. Padwal, ACP (crime), was summoned to the office of Director General of Police in south Mumbai and grilled for over one-and-a-half hours, said SIT sources.

Padwal's questioning comes a day after Police Commissioner of Mumbai R S Sharma was quizzed on the same matter and related issues. Sharma was questioned for two days in succession on November 8 and 9 in this case.

Joint Commissioner of Police (intelligence) Sridhar Vagal was arrested last Friday for his alleged role in shielding Telgi. Vagal had been at that time Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) and Padwal was under his command as ACP (crime).

The allegations against them are that the cops allowed Telgi a good time in police custody. He was even taken to his Cuffe Parade residence and allowed to indulge in luxuries, SIT sources said.

Police officers are also facing the allegations of taking Telgi to Hyderabad, Goa and Bangalore for his personal business purposes using government funds while he was in police custody, the sources said. Bureau Report
