Chinsurah (WB), Apr 08: In pre-poll violence, a CPI(M) leader was killed and a party candidate for next month's panchayat elections injured even as the Marxist cadres ransacked shops and set on fire several thatched houses in retaliation in Hooghly district of West Bengal today. CPI(M) leader Mathur Shee and candidate Subrata Doloi were attacked in the party office at Chabbispur village in Purba Khanakul police station area by a group of unidentified persons armed with choppers and guns, police said.
Shee's throat was slit and Doloi was hit on the head with choppers by the attackers who also resorted to firing.
At Kolkata, DIG of Police (HQ) N C Ghosh said one of the persons involved in the incident has been identified as Nepal Das.

Doloi was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, Ghosh said.
CPI(M) activists later ransacked eight shops in Chabbispur market area and burnt 10 thatched houses while demanding arrest of Das. Bureau Report
