Imphal, Nov 05: Suspected militants of underground Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) shot eight drug addicts in the legs in an interior area in of Manipur's Bishenpur district, official sources said today. The condition of one of the victims of the shooting, which took place yesterday, was stated to be serious.

The militant action comes in the heels of KYKL's announcement that those who sold and took narcotics would be shot dead, while addicts would be shot in their legs as punishment to control drug abuse in the state. Most of the local dailies here today published the picture of the eight addicts along with KYKL activists at an interior camp of the outfit.

A spokesman of the KYKL had earlier said they took a media team to their camp where they produced the eight drug addicts, all hailing from Bishenpur district, before they were shot at. Bureau Report
