Election Commission on Monday extended the period for correction of names and other details in West Bengal's draft voters' list from February 18 to March 6.
The EC also deferred the date for publishing final voters' list from March 26 to April 12, state's chief electoral officer Sabyasachi Sen told newsmen in West Bengal.
“The decision was taken following requests from the Opposition Trinamool Congress and Congress,” Sen said. Both parties had urged for extension of dates for the benefit of voters all over the state.
Sen said that even new voters could incorporate their names by submitting necessary application during the period. The draft voters' list was published on February 4 with the EC inviting correction for any error.
