Jerusalem, Sept 29: The Israeli Army lifted this morning the blockade which it had imposed on the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the Jewish new year, a military statement said.
The blockade had been put in place on Friday evening at the beginning of the holiday weekend in a bid to prevent infiltrations into Israel from the Palestinian territories by would-be attackers. Two Israelis, including a seven-month-old baby girl, were killed on Friday night in a settlement near the West Bank town of Hebron in a shooting claimed by the radical Palestinian movement Islamic Jihad. Public radio said today that the internal security service Shin Beth had recorded around 40 alerts every day during the holiday. Bureau Report
