Naidu hopes for early legislation on reservations
New Delhi, Aug 11: BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu tonight expressed hope that with the constitution of a Group of Ministers (GoM), the government will come up at the earliest with a legislation on providing reservation in jobs for economically backward among upper castes.
New Delhi, Aug 11: BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu tonight expressed hope that with the constitution of a Group of Ministers (GoM), the government will come up at the earliest with a legislation on providing reservation in jobs for economically backward among upper castes.
Welcoming the initiative to set up the GoM, Naidu told
, "The issue needs to be studied indepth. I hope it would
reach an early conclusion and the government will come before
the Parliament with the legislation."
Earlier in the day, party's additional spokesman Prakash Javadekar asked the Congress to clarify its stand on the proposal as otherwise "its double speak would stand exposed”.
He said BJP, which had earlier demanded setting up of a commission to study the issue, after studying all aspects has come to the conclusion that only a constitutional amendment was required. Bureau Report
