Durban, Aug 03: In an incident that sent shock waves across South Africa, two women and a one-year-old child were allegedly abducted, raped and shot dead in Pretoria province of the peninsular nation.
Twenty-four-year-old Janine Drennen, her one-year-old baby Kayla and would-be mother-in-law Heyster Rawstone were abducted from the Sunnyside suburb in Pretoria and taken to black-dominated area of Hammanskraal, police said.
The abductors, on way to their hideout, also kidnapped a 15-year-old girl, they said. At the hideout, Drennen and Rawstone were allegedly beaten, raped and shot dead in cold blood by the abductors, police said.
The abductors then fired at one-year old Kayla, killing her on-the-spot and shot at the teenaged girl, injuring her seriously, police said. The 15-year-old has been admitted to a local hospital.
Pretoria Police yesterday said they had arrested three suspects in connection with the incident that did not appear "normal."
"The way the women were dealt with, raped, beaten and shot, shows something more, something sicker and something far from sinister," a police official probing the case said.
Drennen's beau, Clifford Rawstone told private television that his girl-friend had sent him an SOS message when they were being driven away from Pretoria. "This brutality has ruined our lives," he said. Bureau Report
