Bangladesh Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan today admitted that some "small incidents" of migration by Hindus to India did take place in some parts of the country.
On the reports of migration by Hindus to India after the October one general elections, Khan conceded that "small incidents" did happen in some parts of the country. "Incidents might have happened after general elections", he said.
Khan stressed on the need for maintaining good relations with India saying one could not afford to have ill relations with a neighbour. "You can divorce your wife, but cannot stay away from your neighbour", Khan told newspersons. Stating that Bangladesh had been in contact with the Indian government on the issue, Khan said the government had taken stern measures against such activities. On Afghanistan, the Minister said Bangladesh would welcome restoration of peace in the war-torn country. "We want to see that the situation there is stabilised and the people of Afghanistan live with dignity and honour." Bureau Report
