After a generation and a half of listening to various cover versions — ranging from the very competent to the ridiculous — of Pink Floyd songs, Indian rock aficionadios were treated to the real thing: Roger Waters Live at Bangalore's Palace Grounds. So was there a difference? Yes, there was. For the 30,000-odd crowd waving lighters — and if not lighters, then matchsticks — and swaying to the buzz of iconic rock, it was a night worth remembering. Waters on the stage, appearing like a bass guitar-strapping Richard Gere in black belted out old chestnuts like Animals, Welcome to the Machine and Wish You Were Here.
