Colombo, Aug 14: Direct talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE will take place between September 12 and 17 in Thailand, the Norwegian embassy here said.
The exact date for the commencement of the talks would be announced by the Norwegian government later, a statement released from Oslo said tonight.
The dates were agreed upon at a meeting in Oslo where economic reforms minister Milinda Moragoda met LTTE chief negotiator Anton Balasingham in the presence of Norwegian peace facilitators.
This is the first time that the two parties to the raging civil war of the last 19 years will be meeting face-to-face since the last round of negotiations collapsed in April 1995. Bureau Report
