Mumbai, Feb 10: NCP president Sharad Pawar on Tuesday sharply attacked the BJP-led NDA for not extending the Rs 18,000 crore financial package to turn Mumbai into Shanghai .
"Those ruling the country failed to understand the significance of the state government's demand for a package to change the face of the country's financial capital", Pawar said while addressing a function here.


Earlier, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde performed bhoomi-pojan of the ambitious 6.5 Kms six-lane Santa Cruz-Chembur link road, to be built at a total cost of Rs 175 crore (rpt Rs 175 crore).

Pawar said, the Centre should have come forward to assist the metropolis, which generates maximum revenue for the country.


The NCP president expressed concern saying "Mumbai is fast losing its pre-eminence in industry, textile mills are closing down and many industrial units are closing down".

Entire nation should unitedly back Mumbai, which enjoys an unique position in the country's economy, Pawar said.


He lashed out at the Centre's "feel good" campaign, saying "hundreds of workers have lost their jobs, where is the feel good factor".

Those living in a different world are only able to feel good", he commented sarcastically.


Speaking on the occasion, Shinde said his government plans to change the face of the Mumbai along with improving the infrastructure of the metropolis. Bureau Report
