EC to hold on-the-spot review of poll preparedness
New Delhi, Mar 02: Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy and the two election commissioners have decided to tour the states to monitor the preparations for the elections to the Lok Sabha and four assemblies.
New Delhi, Mar 02: Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy and the two election commissioners have decided to tour the states to monitor the preparations for the elections to the Lok Sabha and four assemblies.
To start the process, aimed at ensuring free and fair polls, the
CEC and Election Commissioners B B Tandon and N Gopalaswamy will
visit Bangalore on March 3 and 4 to review the work done by the
state government so far.
Deputy Election Commissioner Noor Mohammed will visit Jammu and Kashmir for two days from tomorrow for the same purpose.
The three-member commission will hold a series of meetings with top Karnataka government officials including chief secretaries and Director Generals of Police during their two-day stay. It will also meet the chief electoral officer as well as other polling officials directly involved with the election process.
Polling in Karnataka will be held on April 20 and 26 while notifications will be issued on March 24 and March 31 respectively. In the first phase, polling for 15 parliamentary seats and 120 assembly seats will be held on day one while that for the remaining 13 LS and 104 assembly seats will be held on April 26. Bureau Report
