Doordarshan, which launched its new look in August, will come up with four new shows "IPS Diary", "Mashaal", "Albeli... Kahaani Pyaar Ki" and "Sur Sagar".

"I am very happy that we have launched a new regime of TV shows. With these new shows, we are planning to regain the viewership of Doordarshan.

"We have viewers in remotest part of the country. It's not easy for doing our mandate of public service broadcasting and entertain at the same time. We also plan to be on more platforms apart from YouTube and other social forums," said Lalrosanga, Director General, during the announcement of the shows here.

Deepa Chandra, ADG, said slotting of the shows is very important. "We have many TV channels, who are equally brilliant with their content in the prime time. These four new shows are very close to our heart. We aim to grab eyeballs of our target group of 15-30 age groups from metros as well as B and C cities all over India."

"IPS Diary", beginning from October 19, is bringing back popular yesteryear actress Kavita Choudhary of "Udaan" fame. On the show, she is playing a retired cop. It features an adaptation of true cases picked up from the diary of an IPS officer.
"I am making a comeback to TV after 15 years. I was getting offers to play mother-in-laws on various shows but I didn't take them up...

"I feel, crime shows are cinematically better than other shows. I asked my producer whether it will scare the audience but he told me that it will not only make people aware but also empower and entertain," Kavita said.

For the first time on singing reality show "Sur Sagar", the channel is presenting 20 bands and 20 singers, who will battle it out for the title. The singing talent hunt, commencing from October 31, will be judged by Lesle Lewis, Soham Chakraborty and Shilpa Rao.

"This is the first time I am collaborating with Doordarshan. I am proud of it. The show is very different because it will see bands and singers composing their own songs rather than Bollywood numbers and we will judge them on that basis," Lewis said.

Daily soap "Albeli... Kahaani Pyaar Ki", set in Guajarat, is a love story of a village girl who gets married into a posh corporate family. The show unfolds how the girl blends and blunders into a beautiful romance with the suave and rich boy. It is starting from October 26.

"I started off my career as a child artiste on DD with a show 'Humrahi'. My new show is a fun and it will entertain the audience," said Karan Trivedi, male lead of the show. "Mashaal", again a crime TV series, is a dramatised version of criminal cases from across India. It's a 52-episode bi-weekly show that create awareness and educates viewers about crime and steps on how to avoid it. The hard-hitting show will start from October 21.

"It's a proud moment for me to be a part of DD, which I grew up watching. I have witnessed the time when DD had black-and-white shows like Krishi Darshan to the time in 1982 when it got colour," said Rajeev Kumar, the anchor of the show.
