The Delhi High Court monitoring investigation into private company executive Nitish Katara murder case in which Rajya Sabha MP D P Yadav's son and nephew have been chargesheeted, sought fresh status report from UP police on the progress of the case. A division bench comprising Justice B A Khan and Justice V S Agarwal directed SSP Ghaziabad to file the report by May 13 while hearing a petition by Nitish's mother Neelam Katara, seeking proper investigation in the case.

Neelam Katara in a criminal writ pettiion had also sought protection to her and her family alleging that she had been receiving threats. Nitish was kidnapped from a marriage party at Ghaziabad allegedly by D P Yadav's son Vikas and nephew Vishal on Febraury 17 and his charred body was recovered from near Khurja two days later.

Investigating officer Anil Samaniya and UP police counsel Prakash Kumar Singh told the bench that Vikas, Vishal and their accomplice Sukhbir Yadav alias Pehlwan had been chargesheeted for kidnapping, murder and destroying evidence in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Ghaziabad on April six and the case had been committed for sessions' trial.
The district judge has fixed may three for allocation of the case to a sessions court, Singh said adding that efforts were being made to nab Pehlwan, who is absconding and a reward of Rs 5,000 had been declared on him.

Police earlier had stated that the finger print and DNA test of the charred body recovered from Khurja had confirmed that it was that of Nitish Katara.
