Guwahati, Mar 08: Congress president Sonia Gandhi kickstarts the party's election campaign in Assam today. Sonia, who is on a day-long visit to the state, will speaks at a rally to mark the International Women's Day.

The Congress party has alleged that the Centre is using security concerns to curtail Sonia Gandhi's campaign.
Strict arrangements have been made for the Congress president's visit after official concerns were raised on security at her rallies.

Reports say that intelligence agencies wanted her to avoid a public roadshow and only address the rally. But after the Congress launched a protest against such restrictions, Sonia has been allowed to drive from the airport to the rally through Guwahati.

The chief ministers of Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur - Tarun Gogoi, D D Lapang and O Ibobi Singh – will also attend the rally. Bureau Report
