Srinagar, June 12: Nearly 2,000 teachers and para-teachers have been appointed in Jammu and Kashmir under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and education guarantee scheme introduced to improve the literacy rate in the state, the government said today.
Replying to question in the legislative assembly, state
education minister Harsh Dev Singh said 1337 teachers had been
appointed under SSA and another 630 para-teachers under EGS.
Singh said the Rehbar-e-taleem, education guidelines, had been adopted for engaging teachers and para-teachers for the SSA and the EGS.
Singh said schools had been set up in remote areas under the scheme.
Asking MLAs to be a pro-active to ensure the success of the schemes, Singh said the location of the new schools will be decided in consultation with the local representatives.
On whether there was any provision for dotting up these schools for migrants, the minister said they were mostly living in towns and cities where there was saturation of schools.
"I don't think there is any need to set up such schools for them," Singh said.
Giving details of appointment of teachers under the two schemes, Singh said Doda had received the highest - 206 teachers- under SSA due to vast rural area.
On the opposition criticism that the appointments were politically motivated, he said the allegations "were baseless".
