Gaya (Bihar), June 22: Security of Gaya district and sessions judge Jawahar Lal Choudhry has been tightened after he received threats from the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), official sources said. Choudhry was receiving regular threats ever since he awarded capital punishment to eight MCC activists for killing 32 upper castemen at Bara village in the district in February 1991, Gaya district Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh told here.
Choudhry had delivered the judgement in June 2001.
Singh said since the judge was retiring on June 30 threat calls have intensified. Additional police force have been deployed in and around the residence of Choudhry, he added.
The SP said the judge has been provided police force to shift his article to Bhagalpur, where he would settle after his retirement.
Bhagal district police have been requested to provide security to Choudhry after his retirement, the SP said.
