Varanasi, Oct 08: VHP today warned the Union and Uttar Pradesh governments of dire consequences if they prevented the proposed march by its leaders to Ayodhya on October 17, even as a delegation of saints from Ayodhya met Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and urged him to stop VHP's programme.
"Though the October 17 programme will be carried out in
democratic and peaceful manner, if government created hurdles,
anything might happen," VHP president Singhal told reporters
here.
He said the government should provide all facilities to devotees reaching Ayodhya.
Over five lakh ram bhakts drawn from all over the country are likely reach Ayodhya on October 17, Singhal said.
In Lucknow the saints requested the chief minister to ban VHP's entry in Ayohdya alleging that it was fanning communal tension.
Saint Mahant Gyan Das told mediapersons that Yadav has assured his government would take all necessary steps to ensure security in Ayodhya.
He said although they were not opposed to the entry of ram bhakts in Ayodhya, they opposed leaders like Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia.
State Agriculture Minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav, who was also present, said there was no move to ban the VHP's programme at Ayodhya but all security measures would be taken to prevent any untoward incident.
