Midnapore, Dec 19: A MiG-27 fighter aircraft crashed into the ground after its engine caught fire mid-air injuring the pilot near Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal's West Midnapore district tonight, official sources here said. The engine of the aircraft caught fire in mid-air over Baramadhabpur at about 9:30 pm and the plane crashed on the ground, the sources said. DIG (headquarter) police N C Ghosh told that the pilot, whose identity was not yet available, was injured when he came in contact with a livewire while landing with parachute. He was rushed to IAF hospital at Kalaikunda. The co-pilot, however, could land with his parachute safely, the sources said. There was no report of casualty on the ground.
